A DYNAMIC SCHOOL
FOR 21ST CENTURY LEARNERS
SMALL SIZE GETS BIG RESULTS!
At OLOS we take confidence in knowing that great gifts can come in small packages. Small class sizes ensure that each child has the opportunity to receive individual attention. Open ended, cross-level learning opportunities push students beyond factual knowledge to broader understanding and higher levels of thinking. Our small school is a personal setting where all students and teachers know one another by name. Children of different ages associate with each other without feeling out of place and there are plenty of opportunities for elementary age students to develop leadership skills and personal maturity.
A LOCATION THAT SERVES YOUNG FAMILIES!
Located in the renovated Parish Hall of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Our Lady of Schools has the capacity to enroll some 45 to 50 students from pre-school through grade six. This facility provides bright classrooms, a library/learning centre, an assembly area, a lunchroom, gym and stage for performing arts. Church grounds provide outdoor play space for recess and after lunch breaks. The school is also within easy walking distance for outings at downtown museums, the Public Gardens, parks and university campuses.
LEARNING WITH A PURPOSE!
At OLOS we are deeply committed to challenging the intellect and inspiring the imagination of every child. All components of the core curriculum: language arts, math, science, social studies and French, meet or exceed the standards set by the Nova Scotia Public School Program. Catholic Studies, music, art and physical education are also key elements that enrich the students weekly program. The curriculum is developed carefully to ensure a mature, well-informed balance between faith and reason.
CONTINUAL STUDENT PROGRESS!
Students enter our junior primary and primary programs and progress through early, middle and senior elementary cycles that culminate in a grade six graduation year. Four and five year olds are natural learners and early bilingual instruction is offered at the peak of the young child’s learning capacity. Our elementary cycles place a high value on the words, numbers and arts that children need to understand their world, generate ideas and communicate with others.
